Living Near Greenfield in Lancaster, PA: Where Innovation Meets Lancaster County Charm

Greenfield

If you’re considering living in Lancaster, PA, you’ll quickly discover that one of the area’s most desirable locations is Greenfield. More than just an office park, Greenfield has grown into a vibrant mixed-use community where people work, dine, exercise, gather, and enjoy the convenience of modern amenities—all while remaining just minutes from Lancaster County’s picturesque farmland.

For those relocating to Lancaster, Greenfield offers something unique: the opportunity to enjoy a contemporary lifestyle without losing the sense of place that makes Lancaster County so special.

What Is Greenfield?

Located in East Lampeter Township, just east of Lancaster City, Greenfield is a thoughtfully planned business and lifestyle community spanning more than 600 acres. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Lancaster County’s premier destinations for business, healthcare, education, recreation, and dining.

Unlike a traditional business park, Greenfield was designed to create an environment where people could do more than work. Wide sidewalks, walking trails, green spaces, restaurants, coffee shops, fitness facilities, and gathering places make it feel more like a neighborhood than a corporate campus.

Today, thousands of people work in Greenfield each day, making it one of the largest employment centers in Lancaster County.

The History of Greenfield

Long before Greenfield became the thriving community it is today, the land reflected Lancaster County’s agricultural roots. Like much of East Lampeter Township, the area consisted of productive farmland that had been cultivated for generations.

In the late 1960s, local businessman and developer John W. “Jack” Hess envisioned something different. Rather than creating a conventional industrial park, he imagined a carefully planned campus that would attract professional businesses while preserving open space and creating an attractive environment for employees and visitors.

His vision became Greenfield Corporate Center, one of Pennsylvania’s earliest master-planned business communities. As Greenfield expanded over the decades, it welcomed office buildings, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, restaurants, retail services, and recreational amenities. Today, Greenfield continues to grow while maintaining its commitment to landscaping, walkability, and quality design.

That thoughtful planning remains one of the reasons Greenfield continues to attract businesses and professionals from across the region.

Its proximity to Route 30, Route 222, and Lancaster City also makes commuting throughout Lancaster County and neighboring Chester, York, and Berks counties convenient.

More Than Just a Place to Work

Greenfield isn’t simply where people go to the office.

  • Beautiful landscaping and open green spaces

Whether you’re meeting friends for lunch, grabbing coffee before work, or taking an evening walk, Greenfield has become a destination in its own right.

The Best of Both Worlds

One of the reasons I fell in love with Lancaster County was because it offered something I couldn’t quite find anywhere else.

When I moved here from King of Prussia, I wanted the conveniences of a modern community—great healthcare, professional opportunities, restaurants, shopping, and an easy commute. At the same time, I wanted quiet country roads, fresh farm markets, open farmland, and the slower pace that defines Lancaster County.

Greenfield represents one side of that lifestyle.

Just a few minutes away, communities like Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse, and the surrounding countryside represent the other.

It’s entirely possible to spend your morning meeting clients in a modern office building, enjoy lunch at a local café, and then drive home past horse-and-buggies, family farms, and rolling fields. That balance is what makes Lancaster County unlike almost anywhere else.
