Updated October 2026
There’s something special about autumn in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The rolling farmland turns golden, roadside stands overflow with pumpkins and apples, and the cooler weather makes it a wonderful time to explore our small towns, covered bridges, and country roads.
While Lancaster County is beautiful throughout the year, fall brings a different kind of energy. Harvest celebrations, agricultural fairs, corn mazes, seasonal markets, and community festivals fill the calendar.
And you don’t have to travel with children to enjoy it. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend, a family getaway, a girls’ trip, or simply looking for somewhere different to spend a Saturday, Lancaster County offers plenty to explore.
As someone who lives and works in Lancaster County, I think some of our most enjoyable fall experiences are the simplest ones: a scenic drive, a stop at a roadside market, a walk through a charming downtown, or discovering a local event you didn’t know was happening.
Here’s my guide to enjoying fall weekends in Lancaster County.

🍁 1. Experience Lancaster County’s Fall Festivals and Agricultural Fairs
Lancaster County has a rich agricultural heritage, and our community fairs are an important part of local life.
Unlike large commercial festivals, many of these events celebrate the people, farms, businesses, and traditions that make our communities unique.
Popular Annual Fall Fairs
September
- Denver Fair
- Solanco Fair in Quarryville
- Ephrata Fair
- West Lampeter Community Fair
Late September and Early October
- New Holland Farmers Fair
- Manheim Community Farm Show
These fairs typically feature livestock competitions, agricultural exhibits, homemade baked goods, crafts, entertainment, and plenty of traditional Pennsylvania Dutch food.
The Ephrata Fair is particularly popular for its downtown atmosphere, while the New Holland Farmers Fair is a wonderful opportunity to experience the agricultural traditions of eastern Lancaster County.
Local tip: Don’t overlook the smaller community fairs. They can be some of the best places to experience Lancaster County beyond the usual tourist attractions.
The 2026 agricultural fair season has largely concluded, but these are excellent events to plan around for future September and early-October visits.
🎃 2. Spend a Day at a Pumpkin Patch or Corn Maze
If you’re visiting Lancaster County with children or grandchildren, our fall farm attractions are worth adding to your itinerary.
But even adults can enjoy the challenge of a corn maze, a wagon ride through the countryside, or a beautiful autumn afternoon on a working farm.
Cherry Crest Adventure Farm — Ronks
One of Lancaster County’s best-known family attractions, Cherry Crest offers an impressive collection of activities, including its Amazing Maize Maze.
Visitors can enjoy farm-themed games, outdoor activities, seasonal treats, and special fall celebrations.
Upcoming 2026 highlights:
- October 30: Trick or Treat on the Farm

Pumpkin Madness is an entertaining way to close out the season, with pumpkin-smashing activities, games, and fireworks.
Location: 150 Cherry Hill Road, Ronks
Oregon Dairy Farmstead — Lititz
Oregon Dairy is another popular destination for fall family fun.
The Farmstead offers a large corn maze, wagon rides, pumpkin picking, and activities designed for younger visitors.
I especially like that you can combine a farm outing with a stop at Oregon Dairy’s market for baked goods and other local favorites.
2026 fall activities: Scheduled through October 31.
Farmstead location: 1289 Creek Road, Lititz
Country Barn — Lancaster
Country Barn’s Barnyard Kingdom is another family-friendly option, featuring seasonal farm activities, pumpkins, and outdoor entertainment.
It’s a convenient destination for visitors staying closer to Lancaster City.
Corn Cob Acres — Mountville
For families with younger children, Corn Cob Acres offers an assortment of outdoor play areas and seasonal activities.
It’s a particularly good option when you want to spend several hours outdoors without planning an entire day around multiple attractions.
Planning tip: Farm attraction schedules vary considerably. Some operate on Sundays, while others are closed. Always check the current calendar before visiting.
🍎 3. Visit an Orchard, Farmers Market, or Roadside Stand
One of my favorite things about Lancaster County is the abundance of locally grown food.
During autumn, you’ll find apples, pumpkins, squash, cider, mums, and seasonal baked goods throughout the county.
You don’t need to attend a festival to enjoy the harvest season.
Sometimes a Saturday morning spent visiting a few farm markets is an experience in itself.
Places Worth Visiting
Cherry Hill Orchards — Lancaster
A longtime local orchard offering seasonal fruit, a farm market, and pick-your-own opportunities when available.
Kauffman’s Fruit Farm — Bird-in-Hand
A wonderful stop for apples, cider, and other locally produced foods.
Lancaster Central Market — Lancaster City
One of the country’s oldest continuously operating public farmers markets, offering produce, baked goods, meats, specialty foods, and local products.
Kitchen Kettle Village — Intercourse
A popular destination for shopping, locally inspired foods, gifts, and seasonal activities.
What Should You Try?
If you’re visiting Lancaster County for the first time, look for:
- Fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts
- Apple dumplings
- Shoofly pie
- Whoopie pies
- Homemade jams and preserves
- Pennsylvania Dutch baked goods
- Locally grown apples and winter squash
And don’t overlook the small roadside stands scattered throughout the countryside.
Many are operated by local farming families, including Amish and Mennonite households.

🚂 4. Enjoy a Fall Train Ride Through Amish Country
Autumn is a beautiful time to ride the historic Strasburg Rail Road.

During the fall season, special themed experiences add another reason to visit.

The 2026 fall lineup includes seasonal Halloween-themed train experiences, including Haunted Rails & Tales programming.
Some experiences are family-friendly, while others are designed for visitors who enjoy a little mystery or suspense.

Weekend idea: Make a day of it with a morning train ride, lunch in Strasburg, and an afternoon drive through the surrounding farmland.
🍂 5. Take a Scenic Drive Through Lancaster County
Not every fall adventure needs an admission ticket.
Some of Lancaster County’s most beautiful autumn scenery can be enjoyed from the comfort of your car.
Our countryside offers winding roads, historic covered bridges, traditional farmsteads, and beautiful views of the changing leaves.
Three Areas I Recommend Exploring
Strasburg, Bird-in-Hand, and Intercourse
This is classic Lancaster County scenery, with working farms, Amish buggies, small shops, and picturesque rural roads.
Lititz, Rothsville, and the surrounding countryside
Combine a visit to downtown Lititz with a drive through the northern Lancaster County countryside.
Columbia, Marietta, and the Susquehanna River
If you prefer wooded hillsides and river views, western Lancaster County is especially attractive in autumn.
When Is Peak Fall Foliage?
Lancaster County generally experiences its most colorful fall foliage during October, although the timing varies depending on temperatures, rainfall, and elevation.
The middle weeks of October are often a good time to visit.
Local tip: Allow yourself time to stop. A scenic drive is much more enjoyable when you’re not rushing from one attraction to another.
Remember that many of these roads pass through active farming communities. Drive carefully, watch for horse-drawn buggies, and respect private property.
🏞️ 6. Get Outdoors: Hiking, River Views, and Fall Walks
Fall is one of the best seasons for exploring Lancaster County’s parks and natural areas.
The cooler temperatures make walking and hiking more comfortable, and the autumn scenery can be beautiful.
Chickies Rock County Park — Columbia
Chickies Rock offers impressive views of the Susquehanna River and surrounding countryside.
It’s a wonderful destination for visitors who want a scenic overlook without spending the entire day hiking.
Pinnacle Overlook — Southern Lancaster County
For dramatic views of the Susquehanna River, Pinnacle Overlook is another excellent option.
The surrounding landscape is especially attractive as the leaves change color.
Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area — Northern Lancaster County
Middle Creek is known for wildlife viewing, walking trails, and peaceful natural scenery.
Although spring’s snow goose migration receives much of the attention, autumn can also be a lovely time to explore the area.
Lancaster County Conservancy Preserves
For visitors who enjoy quieter outdoor experiences, Lancaster County Conservancy properties offer opportunities to explore protected natural landscapes.
Check individual preserve information before visiting, as trails and accessibility vary.
My suggestion: Bring comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket, and a camera. Even a short walk can be a refreshing way to spend an autumn afternoon.
🎭 7. Attend the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire
One of the region’s most popular seasonal events takes place at Mount Hope Estate in Manheim.
The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire transforms the grounds into an elaborate historical-themed festival featuring entertainment, costumed performers, artisan vendors, food, and theatrical experiences.
It’s a lively event that attracts visitors from throughout Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
2026 season: August 15–October 25, on Saturdays and Sundays.

🎨 10. Discover Fall Arts, Crafts, and Local Shopping Events
Autumn is also a wonderful season for discovering Lancaster County’s artists, makers, and small businesses.
Watch for seasonal craft shows, artisan markets, church bazaars, holiday shopping previews, and special downtown events.
